Save the date: 6:30-10 p.m. Saturday, October 24.

If you haven’t decided whether to attend the Florida Press Club Awards Banquet,
which celebrates the winners of the annual 2009 Excellence in
Journalism Contest award winners, I would highly recommend making your reservation. We are known — ask anyone — for our terrific banquet and after party. I’d even recommend going if no awards were won, just for the opportunity to network. When is networking a bad thing, especially in this economy? Just try to limit your trips to the call bar when you’re meeting and greeting!

Rooms are also available for an reduced rate at the Rosen Shingle
Creek Resort, 9939 Universal Blvd. in Orlando. E-mail our prez at fpcpresident[at]gmail[dot]com for the prices. It’s been reduced from $125 a night.

The cost to attend the banquet this year will be $40 and can be paid
with a credit card online at our Web site www.floridapressclub.org, or
by cash or check at the door. There will be a call bar from 5:30 to
6:30 during registration and a cash bar for the remainder of the
evening. This year’s entree selections include Chicken Scaloppini, Red
Snapper and Roast Prime Rib of Beef. There is also a vegetarian dish
